01

Radius and Diameter

Use it to switch between the radius and full width of a circle.

Example:
02

Circumference

Use it to find the distance around a circle.

Example:
03

Area of a Circle

Use it to find the region enclosed by the circle.

Example:
04

Arc Length

Use it for the curved length cut out by a central angle in degrees.

Example:
05

Sector Area

Use it to find the area of a slice of a circle.

Example:
06

Chord Length

Use it when the radius and the chord’s central angle are known.

Example:
07

Standard Equation of a Circle

Use it for a circle centered at (h, k) on the coordinate plane.

Example:
How they connect

One circle, seven connected results

Use a circle with radius 6, central angle 60°, and center (2, −1) to connect its main measurements and equation.

  1. 1 · Whole circle
  2. 2 · Arc
  3. 3 · Sector and chord
  4. 4 · Equation

Common mistakes

  • Using the diameter where a formula requires the radius.
  • Forgetting to square the radius in the area formula.

Quick answers

Circle formulas FAQ

Should I use radius or diameter in a circle formula?

Area, arc, sector, chord, and circle-equation formulas use the radius. Circumference can use either C = 2πr or C = πd.

Do arc-length formulas use degrees or radians?

The fraction θ/360 uses degrees. With radians, use L = rθ instead.
